According to the necessary requirements for a chirally symmetric Dirac operator, we present a systematic construction of such operators. We formulate a criterion for the hermitian operator which enters the construction such that the doubled modes are decoupled even at finite lattice spacing. PACS numbers: 11.15.Ha, 11.30.Rd, 11.30.Fs Recently we have discussed the necessary requirements [1] for a chirally symmetric Dirac operator Dc to enter the topologically invariant transformation D = Dc(1I + RDc) −1 [2] such that the resulting Dirac operator D could reproduce the continuum physics, where R is a hermitian operator which is local in the position space and trivial in the Dirac space. These constraints for Dc are : (a) Dc agrees with γμ(∂μ + iAμ) in the classical continuum limit. (b) Dc is nonlocal. (c) Dc is free of species doubling. (d) Dc is well defined in topologically trivial background gauge field. (e) Dc has zero modes as well as simple poles ( or equivalently, V has real eigenvalue pairs±1 ) in topologically non-trivial background gauge fields. Furthermore, the zero modes of Dc satisfy the Atiyah-Singer index theorem for any prescribed smooth gauge background. In this paper, we attempt to construct such chirally symmetric Dirac operators Dc which also satisfies the hermiticity condition γ5Dcγ5 = D † c . (1) The hermiticity condition and the chiral symmetry of Dc implies that Dc is antihermitian, thus there exists one to one correspondence between Dc and a unitary operator V , Dc = (1I + V )(1I− V ), V = (Dc − 1I)(Dc + 1I). (2) where V also satisfies the hermiticity condition γ5V γ5 = V . Then the unitary operator V can be expressed in terms of a hermitian operator h, V = γ5h = (

Lattice Fermions and the Chiral Anomaly

We show in the Wilson model that the contribution of the regular mass term to the four-divergence of the axial vector current in weak coupling perturbation theory is not zero in the chiral limit and precisely is the axial anomaly. Explicit breaking of chiral symmetry in the Wilson term is not relevant for the result. The ABJ anomaly is generated by the fermion mass term also with a chirally sym...

Chiral Fermions Coupled to Lattice Gauge Fields

Lattice fermions have well-known difficulties with chiral symmetry. To evade them it is possible to couple continuum fermions to lattice gauge fields, by introducing an interpolation of the latter. Following this line of thinking, this paper presents two Euclidean formulations of the effective action that appears after functional integration over fermion fields, one for vector-like and the othe...

Some remarks on the Ginsparg-Wilson fermion

We note that Fujikawa’s proposal of generalization of the GinspargWilson relation is equivalent to setting R = (aγ5D) 2k in the original Ginsparg-Wilson relation Dγ5 + γ5D = 2aDRγ5D. An explicit realization of D follows from the Overlap construction. The general properties of D are derived. The chiral properties of these higher-order ( k > 0 ) realizations of Overlap Dirac operator are compared...

Fermion determinant with dynamical chiral symmetry breaking

One -loop fermion determinant is discussed for the case in which dynamical chiral symmetry breaking caused by momentum dependent fermion self energy Σ(p2) take place. The obtained series generalizes the heat kernel expansion for hard fermion mass. PACS number(s): 03.65.Db, 11.10Ef, 11.30.Rd, 12.39.Fe In quantum field theory, 1-loop quantum correction of fermions is from fermion determinant. It ...

Low energy effective action of domain-wall fermion and the Ginsparg-Wilson relation

We derive the effective action of the light fermion field of the domain-wall fermion, which is referred as q(x) by Furman and Shamir. The inverse of the effective Dirac operator turns out to be identical to the inverse of the truncated overlap Dirac operator, except a local contact term which would give the chiral symmetry breaking in the Ginsparg-Wilson relation. This result allows us to relat...

A class of chiral fermion models

We study the relation between the Roma and Zaragoza proposals for chiral fermions on the lattice. The fermion action in the Roma approach is shown to be equivalent to one of the Zaragoza type. This result is used to perform a mean-field study of the phase diagram for chiral Yukawa models based on the Roma action. The phase diagram is compared with the one based on the Zaragoza model with the mo...
